A low power variable optic with a true x1 magnification setting is ideal where you might end up making farther shots combined with some fast close quarter shooting. At magnifications of x3 or less, it is faster then an iron sight but not as quick as a reflex sight. A LPVO sets you up as a generalist capable of handling any tactical situation moderately well. |
Militaries around the world need something simple and rugged. The Susat, the C79, the ACOG are all examples of military fielded low magnification prism scopes. The low magnification allows for flexibility in any situation. Almost all low power prism sights have graduations or settings for 223 drop compensation.
Those employing prism sights are set up as generalists who can handle any situation reasonably well with more ruggedness, durability and simplicity then what a low power variable optic offers. They are not at the mercy of batteries as the reticles on prism scopes are always etched on the glass. |
