An amateur will look at magnification. An expert will consider optical quality and light transmission. This can not be stressed enough. To prey on the uninformed, many optics boast a massive magnification to hide poor light transmission, which in the end, makes the magnification worthless with a blurry sight picture.
Only a rich man can afford cheap scopes, so buy once, cry once. If you fail to act on this, you will be selling yourself short and setting yourself up to buy a new optic in the future.
The accepted rule is to pay the same for the scope that you would pay for the rifle, but luckily Specter Arms stocks high quality Vector Optics scopes. These scopes have proven time and time again that they can easily compete with optics twice (or even triple) their cost.
